Feasting !

On Friday we got to eat the bread that we had been creating all week.  We even made our own butter to go with it.  Thanks Miss Tawhara for the experience !
We will bring the recipes home so we can make it with our families.

Rewana Bread

This week with Miss Tawhara we have been making Rewana bread. The first step on Monday was to create the potato bug - this takes three days to be ready!  Each day we have been adding more flour and warm water to help it grow.

We have also been observing the bug and drawing what we can see.  We are all looking forward to Thursday where we get to make the bread!

Masterchef 2017 - Pizza Making Day

We had a fabulous day on Thursday making our pizzas.  Thanks to Renee ( Sport Waikato ), Mrs Dixon and our two student teachers Miss Naden and Miss Coplestone for supporting us for the afternoon. 

SILVERDALE MasterChef 2017

Over the next couple of weeks we are competing in Silverdale Masterchef 2017 along with the other Senior rooms.
Friday was our planning day- what was going to be on our pizza?
Vegetables have to be the star - at least three vegetables on our pizzas.

Ice Cream - Kowhai

A couple of weeks ago our kowhai reading group was reading a text all about ice cream.  We then decided that we should make some of our own!
Thanks to Mrs Dixon ( Millie's mum ) who found a great recipe online and helped us to make it - we were all sorted.  The groups made three different flavours - choc chip, vanilla and strawberry and then strawberry!
We all got to have a taste test on Friday and there is even leftovers for our last week too!
" Better than real ice-cream" was a comment overheard!

Duffy Books

Great excitement at Silverdale on Friday when we all received two books from Duffy Books in Homes.  We had a special Duffy role model assembly where Sophie Corbidge spoke to us about her achievements.  She was fabulous to listen to and a great role model for us all.

Dumplings !

Today we got to make dumplings!  This was heaps of fun.  We all made a couple of dumplings each and of course got to eat them!  

Wednesday BOOK WEEK !

What a day was had today !

This week is BOOK WEEK at Silverdale Normal.  Yesterday we were lucky enough to have Matt Elliott NZ author visiting us and talking with the Senior classes.

Today we had BOOK character day, BNZ 'closed for good' team teaching us how to be wise with our money and Des Hunt - NZ children's book author visiting.

We had some fabulous costumes in Rm 16 and even had the wolf and grandma visiting Red Riding Hood this afternoon......a little scary!

Thanks to the BNZ team for coming in first thing this morning to help us think about our money and encourage us to save.

Des Hunt was fabulous to listen to this morning.  His love of science shone through and we all were excited to listen to his thoughts on how to write a good book.  He shared that fact that writers are often rejected by publishers and this happens to even famous authors !  But with perseverance you can get there!!

ART - Printmaking

Over the last couple of weeks, we have been creating prints using cardboard.  We could design our plates with any image and we created three prints.

Dance Class

Today our student teachers taught half of our class a dance lesson !  Lots of fun was had as we pretended to be blown around in the wind.

Animal Enclosures

As part of our Inquiry this term, we are creating an enclosure for any animal.  We had to think about their emotional, social and physical needs when we planned our enclosures.

Today we started our creations !

Rm 16 Artists

After our recent trip to the Zoo, we were inspired to create some Art work.  We choose an animal skin or fur to recreate and then we used a silhouette picture to develop our own ones.  Here is the results!

Playground 2017

YAY today was the offical opening of the playground.  This afternoon Rm 16 had a chance to explore the different activities that we can do!  Thanks to the community who helped move the bark over the weekend.

Zoo Trip

We had a fabulous time at the zoo on Monday - check out some of the photos!  We will post some zoo writing when we have finished it ! Thanks to the amazing staff and animals of the Hamilton Zoo.
